Training Sessions for Carers

Centre Training:

Each year the Centre runs a programme of training for carers, based on your feedback. We always try to offer training that will support carers and address any needs and issues they have raised.  We are always keen to hear your views about training that may help you so if you have any ideas please do let us know.

All our sessions are offered free of charge and are designed to give you the skills and knowledge to help you cope confidently in your caring role.

If you see a session, or sessions, that you are interested in attending but you are unable to leave the person you care for to attend, please contact the Centre and we will discuss the options available to you.

The following will give you a brief description of the training modules that are on offer throughout the year. When available, the dates of all sessions will be given below but do please keep checking this page as we will regularly update the training opportunities which are available to you and when sessions will be delivered.

Mindfulness:

These sessions will look at what is mindfulness and how can it help you tackle the unhelpful thoughts and feelings you experience in your caring role?

Tech. Days:

Do you have a problem with your 'phone, laptop or tablet, or do you need advice and assistance with how to use it?

Book an appointment on one of our Tech Days with our Training Officer Suzy, who will go through any issues you have using your device(s).

“More than met my expectations. Helped with independence. Expert, patient, step by step guidance. Helped to build self-confidence.”

Confidence Building:

Learn the importance of positive thinking, improve your self esteem and discover how to turn negatives into positives by focusing on your good points.

Assertiveness:

Take a look at why we might not be assertive and some of the situations we find difficult. Learn how to improve assertiveness and get your voice heard.

Caring with Confidence:

If you care for someone who has memory problems, these sessions will help to improve your knowledge of their condition and the course will enable you to look at all aspects of your caring role.

First Aid:

Learn some basic first aid for the most common accidents and issues that might happen in and around the home, including burns, cuts and CPR.

Internet Safety:

How do we get online and how do we use the internet safely? We will be thinking about how much information we freely give away and some of the problems this can cause.

“Will enable me to explain safety issues to my husband. Helped with

confidence in using the internet.”

“Lots to think about, but reassured me and will help me do things I haven't.”

Fire Safety & Burns Prevention:

Look at how burns occur, how we can prevent them from happening and what to do if they do happen. We will try to understand the effects of burns, in particular on the very young and on the elderly.

Additionally, we will be looking at house fire prevention and safety tips, making a fire escape plan for your own home, taking into consideration extra difficulties that may be encountered if there is someone with limited mobility, or understanding in the house.

Infection Control:

Take a look at the importance of infection control, especially when providing personal care.

We will look at how infection is spread, learn to recognise some common conditions and look at practical ways of limiting the spread of infection.
