Exhibition Park Stroll
Enjoy a pleasant circular walk around Newcastle's Exhibition Park with our Centre Strollers.
Opened in 1878, in a corner of the Town Moor, the site was chosen as the venue for Queen Victoria's Royal Jubilee Exhibition in 1887, after which time it became known as Exhibition Park.
The North East Coast Exhibition held in 1929 attracted 4.3 million visitors and in 1951 the park became the centre for Tyneside's contribution to the Festival of Britain. The annual Tyneside Summer Exhibition was held there until the 1970s when many parks went into decline, including Exhibition Park.
In recent years however new life has been breathed back into the park with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and support from the local community, resulting in its restoration as one of Newcastle's best loved green spaces.
Please meet at the Haymarket Metro Station, Newcastle, at 11.00 am.
Please note that you do not require any specialist equipment for this walk other than comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions on the day.
