A Playlist 4 Life?
Creating a unique playlist of meaningful songs to help someone with dementia and their carer
These monthly sessions will help create a list of songs and tunes that provide happiness, comfort or distraction. Together, the carer of someone with dementia and the person with dementia compiles a playlist of songs that evoke pleasant and significant memories.
We create special memories when we are between the ages of 10 and 30 that connect music to the events of our lives. The playlist sessions will involve Mary from North Shields Library and Stu from the Carers’ Centre. They will talk to participants about the music they recall from their youth. Stu and Mary will then record the songs in the format the participants prefer, be it CD, an IPAD or Spotify etc. Once created, the playlist can be re-played at home and help aid the person who has dementia.
The sessions are normally great fun with people sharing stories about the
pop stars they loved and the local venues and scenes they enjoyed.
