Carers Invited to Attend ‘Between Worlds’ Performance at Northern Stage
Are you dealing with dementia or caring for someone with dementia? Would you relocate your family member with dementia to Thailand to receive adequate care?
An original performance titled ‘Between Worlds’ will take place at Northern Stage, November 13-15, exploring the outsourcing dementia care from the UK to private facilities in Thailand.
Aimed at people caring for a family member with dementia, those working in the care sector, organisations working with older people, and people interested in research-based performance, Between Worlds explores the outsourcing of dementia care from Germany, Switzerland, North America and the United Kingdom to Thailand.
Combining performance, film, journalism, and social science, the play brings together a unique collaboration between Costa Compagnie and social scientists from the University of British Columbia and Newcastle University.
Each night the performance will be followed by a facilitated discussion about the issues raised within the play.
The team spent three weeks filming and researching in care facilities in Chiang Mai. Between Worlds performs interconnected, lived stories of dementia care within an immersive staging. Atmospheric images are inhabited on stage by three performers (from Thailand, England and Germany) who weave conversational threads from interviews into an essayistic narrative that conveys the experiences of caregivers.
