Carers Rights Day 2019: Information Sessions for Professionals
North Tyneside Carers’ Centre will be hosting workshops throughout Carers Rights Day targeted at professionals on Thursday, November 21.
This Carers Rights Day, we hope to reach as many professionals in North Tyneside as possible with information and examples of best practices for professionals who undertake carers assessments. We will also be providing an overview of the work we do at the centre.
North Tyneside Carers’ Centre is one of hundreds of organisations across the UK taking part in Carers Rights Day. Carers Rights Day is an annual national awareness campaign organised by the charity Carers UK, which aims to reach as many of the 6.5 million carers in the UK as possible with information about their rights and the financial and practical help they are entitled to; including benefits, such as Carer’s Allowance, breaks and access to equipment and technology which can help them in their caring role. This year the charity is encouraging people to think about how caring might affect them now and in the future and what support they might need.
Claire Easton, the Centre’s Chief Executive, said:
“Most of us will care for or be cared for at some point in our lives. Supporting a loved one who is older, ill or has disabilities can be a source of satisfaction but without the right advice and support in place it can also be tough and detrimental to our mental health. This Carers Rights Day we’re encouraging professionals to visit the Centre and learn more about how best to support carers on a range of issues.
“Often people don’t identify themselves as carers and end up missing out for years on the right support. When undertaking assessments, it is absolutely vital that professionals understand the impact of caring on a carer in order to provide appropriate information and advice.”
