Life as a Trustee – Meet Paul

My name is Paul Waggott and I joined the Board of Trustees of the North Tyneside Carers Centre towards the end of 2016.

I was a young carer from the age of 11. I looked after my mother who had serious mental health and prescription drug abuse problems. My father worked full time and often used to work overtime shifts as well as running his own business. So that meant that I had to care for my mother as best I could before and after school for a large proportion of the working week.

When I heard about North Tyneside Carers’ Centre, I felt that I could use my understanding of being a young and adult carer together with experience that I had gained during a forty odd year career working at all levels in the IT industry to help steer and govern the organisation.

Since then, I have taken voluntary redundancy so I have more time to devote to NTCC. It’s never dull, there are always challenges as well as heart-warming and happy stories and I’m looking forward to playing my part in helping expand the services that NTCC provide and raising awareness amongst ordinary people about what a carer is, what they do and, in many instances, identifying individuals as carers when they weren’t even aware that they were.

Why don’t you look at our website, you may be in for a surprise!
